Maybe you’ve been on your own spiritual journey for a while now and feel called to help others on theirs. Or maybe you just love helping people and think this could be a great way to make a living doing something you’re passionate about. Whatever your reasons, if you’re thinking about becoming a spiritual life coach, there are a few things you should know before taking the plunge.

What Does a Spiritual Life Coach Do?

A spiritual life coach is someone who helps people connect with their higher selves and live more authentic, joyful lives. As a spiritual life coach, you will help your clients tap into their own inner wisdom so they can make empowered choices in their lives. You will also provide support and accountability as they work to manifest their dreams.

Becoming a spiritual life coach requires more than just completing a coaching program or certification (something recommended, but not required). Oftentimes, your life experience and/or skillset qualify you to coach others experiencing what you may have gone through. I believe it requires personal development work and an ongoing commitment to your own growth and evolution. If you’re thinking about becoming a spiritual life coach, here are four things you should know.

1. You Must Be Willing to Do Your Own Work

If you want to become a spiritual life coach, the first thing you must be willing to do is your own personal development work. This is non-negotiable. In order to help others heal, grow, and transform, you must be willing to do the same in your own life. This means being open to facing your shadow self, releasing old patterns and beliefs that no longer serve you, and doing the inner work necessary to create lasting change in your life.

2. Certification is Not Required

While there are plenty of coaching programs and certifications out there, they are not required in order to become a spiritual life coach. The most important thing is that you have done the work on yourself first and that you have something valuable to offer your clients. If you do choose to get certified, make sure it’s with a program that resonates with you spiritually and that will offer you the tools and support you need to be successful in your new career.

3. You Must Be Self-Disciplined

As a spiritual life coach, you will be working for yourself, which means it’s important to be self-disciplined in order to be successful. This includes everything from showing up for yourself daily by making time for self-care and personal development to showing up for your clients by being present for sessions and meeting deadlines. It also means continuing to learn and grow by reading books, listening to podcasts, attending workshops and events, and investing in your own coaching or therapy (yes, even coaches need coaches!).

4. You Get Out What You Put In

Finally, it’s important to remember that like anything else in life, what you put into becoming a spiritual life coach will determine what you get out of it. If you’re half-hearted in your efforts or only show up when it’s convenient, chances are that’s all you’ll get back. But if you’re committed to doing the work, showing up consistently, and giving it your all, then the sky’s the limit when it comes to what’s possible for you and your business.
